I think you have known about this topic
But, I want to give you more information about this :D
Enjoy it guys !
A braid (also called plait) is a complex structure or pattern formed by intertwining three or more strands of flexible material such as textile fibres, wire, or human hair. Compared to the process of weaving a wide sheet of cloth from two separate, perpendicular groups of strands (warp and weft), a braid is usually long and narrow, with each component strand functionally equivalent in zigzagging forward through the overlapping mass of the others.
The simplest possible braid is a flat, solid, three-strand structure in some countries/cases called a plait. More complex braids can be constructed from an arbitrary (but usually odd) number of strands to create a wider range of structures: wider ribbon-like bands, hollow or solid cylindrical cords, or broad mats which resemble a rudimentary perpendicular weave.
Braids are commonly used to make rope, decorative objects, and hairstyles (also see pigtails, French braid). Complex braids have been used to create hanging fibre artworks.
Braiding is also used to prepare horses' manes and tails for showing, polo and polocrosse.

How to Do Cute Simple Braid Hairstyles for Teens
Braided hairstyles are often among the hottest runway trends and are simple to create. Braids are not just for princesses and "prairie" girls anymore. Teens are wearing cool, messy braids, tight all-over braids and cute, accent braids. They are just right for a casual night out with your girlfriends, a formal dance or a first date. Experiment with this fashion trend and learn what braid style works for best for you.
Things You'll Need
Ribbons and hair ties
Braid bling, such as bands, beads or jewels
Instructions
o 1 Make a loose, fishtail braid if your hair is long enough. Brush your hair out completely and gather it into three parts, hold one with each hand and leave a middle section loose. Leave 6 inches to 8 inches of loose hair before the start of the braid. Take one section and cross it over the other; take the opposite section and cross it in the opposite direction. Pick up the middle section and cross it over one of the other sections. Continue to create the braid until you have about 1 inch to 2 inches left at the bottom. Do not tighten the sections. Bind the end with a ribbon or other type of hair tie. You should have a relaxed and easy braid with some free floating strands. Just right for any occasion.
o 2 Create a sophisticated French braid for a special occasion or night out. Comb your hair out until it is as smooth as possible. Divide it into two parts starting high on the back of your head near the crown. Divide your hair into three sections and alternate crossing each over the other in opposite directions as instructed above. Instead of leaving a loose, unbraided section, pull each section of the French braid as tightly to the back of your head as you can. This will create a smooth, elegant braid that falls down your back. It's perfect for dates or more formal parties.
o 3 Bring out your Bohemian chic side by designing a funky accent braid. Separate out one small section of hair on the side or near the front of your head. Section it into three parts as before and braid by crossing and alternating the sections over each other. Create as many of these small braids as you like leaving the rest of your hair free hanging.
o 4 Add some braid bling -- accents, accessories, embellishments -- to any of these styles by weaving or attaching small beads, jewels or other glitzy add-ins to your braids. It's a quick, simple way to enhance a plain braid. You can buy ready-made braid bling in the form of beads and sparkles that have been attached to hair bands. Tie the jeweled bands at the top, middle or bottom of your braid. Add as many as you like. Or make your own bling by gluing gems or charms to whatever hair ties you have already. Let your imagination and creativity run wild.
How to Braid Pigtails
Pigtail braids are a classic hairstyle for little girls and can add fun and whimsy to a grown woman's look as well. Try this style for school picture day or pair pigtail braids with a summer dress and sandals for a casual, cute style. Also, braiding pigtails takes only minutes and is simple to do, even for hair novices.
Things You'll Need
Brush
Comb
Hair Elastics
Bobby Pins
Hair Spray
Instructions
o 1 Prepare the hair for braiding by making two pigtails. Using a brush, comb the hair until it's free of any knots and messy patches, making it smooth. Part the hair down the center of the head, starting just above the forehead and continuing down to the base of the skull. Use a fine tooth comb to ensure a neat, orderly part and brush strays to the proper side to keep it symmetrical looking.
o 2 Pull the sections of parted hair into place on either side of the head. Decide where each pigtail should be located- just below the ears, on the back of the head near the base of the skull or higher up for a bouncy, perky look. Take a hair elastic and wrap it around the base of each section of hair several times until the hair is held securely in place. Check to make sure no stray pieces of hair have escaped.
o 3 Braid the pigtails. Take one pigtail and divide it into three equal sections of hair. Pull the left or right section of hair over the piece in the middle and then, pull the length of hair from the opposite side over the middle piece again. Carefully pull all three sections away from one another to tighten the braid and continue crisscrossing the pieces as before, working down the length of the pigtail. Tighten continuously to ensure a strong braid. Repeat with the other pigtail.
o 4 Tie the end of each braided pigtail tightly with another hair elastic. Perform a visual inspection to make sure the braids are even and no hairs are hanging loose. Secure any loose sections with bobby pins, though loose pieces around the face can frame and flatter. If desired, mist the braided pigtails with hairspray to keep them in place.
