BOBBY PIN
A bobby pin is a type of hairpin. In British English, it is known as a hair grip, grip, or kirby grip. It is a small pin or clip, usually of metal or plastic, used in coiffure to hold hair in place. Typical bobby pins are plain and unobtrusively colored, but some are elaborately decorated or jeweled. A bobby pin is a double-pronged hair pin that slides into hair with the prongs open and then the flexible prongs close over the hair to hold it in place. Bobby pins became popular in the 1920s to hold the new bobbed hairstyles.

USES
Like barrettes, decorated bobby pins are sometimes used to be noticed in hair. A decorated bobby pin can have beads, ribbons or other details on it and is usually worn to pull back front sections of hair while looking more decorative than a plain bobby pin.
Ballet dancers often use bobby pins to keep their hair in place for class or performances.
Recently, due to their cheapness, strength and durability, hair grips have been applied for a variety of different uses. In Africa, Bobby pins are systematically used to repair inoperative sandals. The tactic, simple yet*refined into an elegant trade, has been incorporated by both nationals and expatriates living alongside each other throughout all regions of the continent.
Bobby pins can also be used to hold cloth headbands or bandannas in the hair. Many Jews use bobby pins to hold head coverings, such as a yarmulke, securely to their hair.
To use a bobby pin, simply push hair into the desired position and push the bobby pin into place. There is no need to open the clip first.
Bobby pins may also be used as makeshift lockpicks

HISTORY
The "bobby pin" came into wide use as the hairstyle known as the "bob cut" or "bobbed hair" took hold. This trend gained popularity in the 1920s, and the bobby pins kept the bobbed hair in place. A trademark on the term "bobby pin" was held for some decades by Bob Lépine Corporation of Buffalo, New York. A trademark infringement claim made by Bob Lépine against Procter & Gamble regarding their naming their home permanent product Bobbi was settled in the 1950s by a payment to Bob Lépine by P&G. The term is now in common usage and therefore is no longer a valid trademark. Similarly, the British "kirby grip" is derived from the trademark Kirbigrip, used by a Birmingham manufacturer of such pins, Kirby, Beard & Co. Ltd.

Gather a section of hair about 1 to 2 inches wide, depending on your desired hairdo you are creating and the intended placement of the pins. Holding your hair in place with one hand, open up a bobby pin.

How to Make an X With Bobby Pins
Bobby pins can blend with hair and look invisible if their color resembles the colnr of the hair, or they can be used as a style accessory when they are decorated with jewels or embellishments. Bobby pins are a basic hair tool which can be used to create a variety of hair styles. Though they do not close, bobby pins can keep hair securely in place. One way to keep them firmly in place is to form create an X with two bobby pins.

Things You’ll Need:
·         Comb
·         Brush
·         Bobby pins
·         Hairspray (optional)

Instructions:

o    1 Brush hair to smooth out tangles and to get rid of knots. Decide on where you want to place use the X which the two bobby pins will create.
o    2 Gather a section of hair about 1 to 2 inches wide, depending on your desired hairdo you are creating and the intended placement of the pins. Holding your hair in place with one hand, open up a bobby pin.

o    3 Hold the bobby pin in a diagonal position with the opening facing dnwnward. Slide the open bobby pin over the the section of hair and let go of the bobby pin so that it closes over the hair.
o    4 Take another bobby pin and insert it diagonally from the opposite side. Place it so that it crosses through the first bobby pin and creates an X.
o    5 Adjust the two bobby pins so that an even X is formed. Repeat the process if hair is loose and falls out. Spritz hair with hairspray if desired, to further secure the hairstyle created by the bobby pin X.

Two (2) Clever Ways To Use Your Bobby-Pins
The Side Sweep: This look is the most uncomplicated of the bunch and it works for all hair types and most lengths (Our model has thick, curly hair and it worked for her). All you need is a little hairspray, water, and patterned bobby pins.

Step 1: Start by parting your hair to the side. If you have extra-thick or curly hair, use hair pins to secure hair at the back of your head.
Step 2: Slick the side back by spraying your hair with water and combing through to create a flat surface. Then, spray the section with non-flaking hairspray (like Aveda Air Control) and comb through (the water keeps the hairspray from flaking). Repeat until your hair is slick. Wait for it to dry, or blow-dry, and don't forget to secure the section in back using a few bobby pins.

Step 3: Add a vertical row of equally spaced bobby pins.

Step 4: Next, add a second layer of bobby pins in a criss-cross pattern.

Make sure you hold onto your hair and the bobby pins that are already in place when criss-crossing.

The Pompadour: Max out a simple, half-up style with a sky-high pompadour and patterned bobby pins.

Step 1: Tease the top section of your hair to create volume and height—this is especially important if you have fine hair. Spray with hairspray if needed.

Step 2: From your ear to your crown, pull hair back into a half-up style. Twist the top section, push hair forward to create a "poof," and secure with bobby-pins. Finish with hairspray.

Step 3: Add patterned bobby pins to each side of your head.

Keep the bobby pins evenly spaced on each side.
That's all for this week girls
