Headbands are a clothing accessory worn in the hair or around the forehead, usually to hold hair away from the face or eyes. Headbands generally consist of a loop of elastic material or a horseshoe-shaped piece of flexible plastic or metal. They come in assorted shapes and sizes and are used for both fashion and practical/utilitarian purposes. Horseshoe-shaped headbands are sometimes called Alice bands after the headbands that Alice is often depicted wearing in Through the Looking-Glass.
One of the most flexible head accessories that a girl can have is a stretchy headband. Depending on the design of the headband, it can function as a ponytail holder, a headband, wrist band, or even a main hairpiece. If you are into headbands, particularly the stretchy ones that are coming back in fashion, then this article is just right for you. Get a couple of different styled headbands so that you can match it according to the occasion.
Materials that you will need:
Several kinds of stretchy headbands (glittery, simple, floral etc.)
Comb or brush
Hair spray (optional)
Pins and other hair accessories
  • Doing a simple sporty up do. For the most basic use of the stretchy headbands, you can use it to part your hair when you are in a sporty routine or just when you need your hair out of your face. You can place a simple headband over your head until it reaches down your neck. Then with a comb or a hair brush, part your hair until all of it is swept behind your head neatly. Then slowly bring up the elastic headband to your forehead, with the other half just on your nape. This should flatten the hair on your forehead, and slowly push it upwards to your hairline. Depending on how strenuous your activity is, you might need to reposition it once in a while to keep your hair out of your face.
How to Wear Large Headbands
Almost any type or length of hair can wear a headband. Women usually wear large headbands, rather than men. Large headbands work well for holding back bangs. They can also sit on top of the hair and act as an accent. Large headbands come in various colors, patterns and textures. You can use a cloth-covered headband or a hard plastic one. Headbands accent hairstyles and help hold the style into place.

o    Slip the headband on. Push it to the crown of your head.
o    Leave the two strands in front hand free to frame your face.
Headbands for short hair

Draw attention to a stylish short haircut without messing it up by correctly wearing a headband. Headbands are fabric loops often backed with elastic and large enough to go all the way around the head. The function of a headband is to keep hair and sweat from getting in the wearer's eyes. They may also be worn as a non-functioning fashion accessory for those with short hair who are not sweating. Apply a comfortable headband to your noggin to add a stylish touch quickly to a short hairdo.

Things You'll Need

  • Brush
  • Styling products (optional)
  • Mirror
  • Hairpins (optional)

Instructions

1. Brush the short hair back away from the face in a style that you find pleasing. You may wish to use any variety of styling products to achieve the look you are going for or skip them all together. Select a thin headband to go with short hair and hold it next to the outfit it will be worn with to make sure the colors match or complement each other.
2. Spread the headband and hold it, so it is just above where the ears are and parallel to the hairline. Tilt the position of the headband up and down to rest below or above the hairline until you like the way it looks.
3. Release the headband, so it falls into place in the position you have chosen. Some headbands are open-ended and need to be tied in the back to keep them from sliding. You may also choose to use small hair clips if there is enough hair to attach the headband.
